What is that magical ingredient that makes Cheetos so hard to resist? Or turns etiquette-minded ladies into finger-licking Doritos dust addicts? Thanks to the creativity of Nabisco, we’ll probably never know all the details, but that’s beside the point.
The point is, how do you pair wines with these mysterious, and wildly addictive snacks? What flavors complement “Cheez” sandwiched between miniature Ritz crackers? Neon orange “cheddar” ? Luckily, I have a few friends who can’t resist the smell of white cheddar cheez-its and all their related siblings, and together we organized a snack and wine tasting panel this week. Say Goodbye to your artificial cheese pairing woes and hello to another Daring Pairing!
The Snack: Smart Puffs Wisconsin Cheddar
The Wine: Venegazzù Montelvini Prosecco
The Why: This Prosecco is light and airy (thanks to happy, delicate bubbles) and is dominated by golden apple flavors and aromas. The salty sharpness of white cheddar is a great contrast, and together the cheesy poofs and juice are a perfect match. (Serving size: 1 bottle and 1 bag per person.)
